Mother's Day Tea

Today Sedona's class had a LOVELY Mother's Day Tea! They performed a few songs- one of them being Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" which makes me teary at the best of times. They each painted a picture and wrote one line of the song on it and then stood up when their line was sung. Yes, I had tears in my eyes! They also served us tea and strawberry shortcake and individually told us what they were going to do to make the world a better place. Amongst other things, Sedona said she was going to make blankets for people who didn't have any money. Am I responsible for making sure she follows through with that?!

New Kid in Town

Up until this year in our house, we've never had a problem with deer. However, a month ago, a deer managed to jump over our fence and eat our purple sprouting broccoli that we had been growing all winter. Now that we have neighbors, the land is built up and they have easier access to our garden. I was hoping it might be a fluke one time deal. However, this morning, this guy was pleasantly hanging out at another neighbor's bird feeder, so it may be a sign of what's to come! I sure hope not as we love our veggie garden!

Easter Morning

The Easter Bunny found our place. Last night while going to bed, Aja asked me whose house the Easter Bunny would go to first. I said I wasn't sure and she thought he would come to our house first because he lives right down the street in the forest. When I told her he's wait until Chris and I went to sleep too, she said that was okay because it would take him a while to hop here. Then Sedona asked me how he got in our house. we leave a magic key out for Santa, but not the easter Bunny. I told her "magic" was the only way to explain it. Later this morning when we were going for a walk, she noticed the lid to our alarm pad was open and said "that must be how the Easter Bunny got in!"

Aja's Birthday Party

We are used to cold and rainy weather for both the girls' birthdays, so today was a real treat! It was a perfect day outside- warm and sunny, which meant we spent most of the birthday party outside. It's so much less chaotic having an outdoor birthday party! This year's theme was a "dog" party. We had one of babysitters do doggie facepainting, decorated dog bone cookies, found the hidden dog bones in the yard, had a pinata and just played. I was dreading making the dog cake, but my friend leant me a dog cake pan with a picture which made it much easier, and I was surprised to find that I actually enjoyed doing it! It was a great day! Happy Birthday to Aja!

Aja turned 4 today. We have a birthday tradition that you get to pick your birthday breakfast and dinner. Aja chose "Fruit Loops" for breakfast because I never buy sugar cereal! She got her wish. She went off to preschool in her fancy dress from Grandma Lou (whcih of course she got a bunch of comments about) feeling all good about life. We talked about her stopping sucking her thumb when she turned 4 and she agreed this morning she was never going to suck it again. A few times, I saw her stick it in, and I reminded her, and she took it right out. By 6:45 tonight though in a restaurant with Nana and Grandpa Bill (she chose Chinese for her birthday dinner), she was falling asleep and asked "can I just suck it right now?" She also got a visit from Grandma with gifts, and Nan and P.K.'s present also arrived in the mailbox on our way home from dinner. Gifts are pretty exciting at this age, and we've asked people to bring two toonies again for her birthday (one for her, one for charity) party on Saturday, so we figured she could have a few days of extravagence! Thanks to all the grandparents for spoiling her rotten! (That's the coat and matching rainshoes Nan and P.K.).

Doing Grandpa's Hair

Sedona often gets picked up by her Grandpa on Wednesdays after school and she so looks forward to her time with him. Today when he came by for a visit today with Grandma, Sedona enjoyed attempting to do his hair in ponytails!

Getting Ready for Easter

At the end of our Easter craft this morning, Aja asked if she could paint her hands. How could I say no when she asked so politely?!

Friday Afternoon Bug Search

I love my Friday afternoons off with Aja (my school ends at noon) before we pick Sedona up from school. It's a treat having some one on one time with her. She is such a character! The other day we spent an hour looking for bugs. I'm so glad both the girls like insects!
