Budding Entomologist

Uncle Adam and Auntie Alli brought the perfect gift for Sedona who loves insects: a bug kit! The "Bugs Of British Columbia" book is more for Mom and Dad's sake to help answer one of her many "what" or "why" questions.

2 Month Update

I can't believe two months have already gone by with Aja in our lives, and at the same time, it's hard to believe it's only been 2 months. I think I already said this, but it feels like Aja has been a part of our family for a long time! She is doing really well. As you can see from other posts, she is a very happy baby. Right now she loves to smile, coo and shove her fists in her mouth. In the above picture, she is talking to the mobile animals in her crib as she watches them in excitement. Sedona loves being a big sister! Aja used to be a little bit stunned when Sedona lovingly (unbeknownst to Aja) rubbed her face in hers with her long wisps of hair wagging everywhere. However, now I often see Aja looking at Sedona with an interested smile. At this early stage in her life when they still sleep so much, you are able to bring them anywhere and do anything. But we have already gotten into a pretty good routine for everybody's sake. Sedona and Aja wake up at around the same time (sometimes Aja is later) and we still start off our day reading books in Sedona's bed. After Aja has been up for about an hour, she 's already down for her first nap so Sedona gets some one on one time. When she wakes up, it's go time whether it's music class, playdates, walks, running errands etc. and she just sleeps on me in the sling or snuggly so we carry on as usual. Then when we're home for Sedona's nap, I usually get a bit of one on one time with Aja and then she goes down as well, so I can get dinner ready etc. Once Sedona is up, we read books again and then we often go outside and walk, play, and Sedona's favorite: pick Salmonberries! At this point, Aja usually sleeps again. She pretty much has a 45 minute-1 1/2 hour window where she's awake, so the rest of the time is spent sleeping (about 5-6 naps a day). When Chris gets home, it's usually family time in the backyard or Sedona and Chris together while I get dinner ready. We can't wait for Chris to be off this summer and have him home with us all day! At this point Aja goes to bed later than Sedona and her last stretch of the night is when she's the most vocal cooing away happily. When she's awake, she is very content in your arms, on the floor, in her vibrating chair- wherever! The other day Sedona looked at her and said "She's so cute Mom!" which was neat to hear. Up until now Aja has been sleeping a 5 hour stretch at night, but last night she slept for 7 1/2 hours- I sure hope it wasn't just a fluke and that she does it again! I went to bed shortly after her so it was nice to get a 6 1/2 hour straight stretch of sleep!
My Dad and Cheryl were recently out for a visit, as well as my brother and his partner Alli. Sedona loves having visitors- even though they rented a cottage in Halfmoon Bay, they were here a lot so we all got lots of quality time together. I love my life out here, but whenever my family comes out for a visit, I am reminded of how much I do miss them. I'm lucky to at least have Chris' family nearby and more frequent visits from my parents now that the girls are in our lives.
Chris had all 4 of his wisdom teeth out a month ago. They were very deeply impacted so it wasn't much fun for him. However, he recovered well only to wake up today to an abscess so has to go into Vancouver on Friday to get it drained. Poor guy! His cheeks are all swollen again and he's in quite a bit of pain.
I think that's all the news for now. Looking forward to seeing many of you this summer and introducing our little smiler to you in person!

Our Little Smiler

Aja doing one of the two things she loves most: Smiling! What's the second thing? Sleeping! We are very blessed to have such a good baby!

Sedona's First Concert

Sedona went to her first ever concert last Friday. The venue was a playground and the artist was a local musician: Graham Walker. The kids were too young to really understand the concept of dancing in the middle so it was basically an outdoor picnic with live music, but he did have us up doing the Hokey Pokey at one point. Here's Sedona thanking Graham for the music at the end.

Water Fight

Sedona had her first ever water fight today. She was at a birthday party and her buddy Sophie from music was there as well. They were the only 2 1/2 year olds (4 days apart actually) amongst a bunch of one year olds. So, they found the pool and tested the boundaries. At first there were just little splashes and by the end they were pouring water over each others' heads!

Speaking of Development

And then there's Aja who is now interacting in her own way as well. She's cooing in response to smiles and has been super smiley lately. The other day I thought "she must be having a growth spurt" as she slept all day and ate more frequently. Then the next day Chris came home and said "you look older today" and she really does.

A New Stage of Development

Sedona has just entered a new realm: playing with friends rather than just beside them. It's so neat to see her really interacting with her friends now as they chase each other and make up games. This was last weekend at our friends' place for dinner. Katherine is 2 months older than Sedona and the girls had a ball- we parents had just as much fun watching them laugh and chase each other. This morning Sedona had a playdate with a new friend. Isabella is 1 month older than her and they instantly became friends. We met at her house and then walked to the park. The girls held hands as they walked all around the park, stopping every 5 minutes to hug each other. Then they'd run around chasing each other and ask each other which way they should go next as they stopped to pick up spiders and ants. It was absolutely adorable! Each stage of development is so exciting!
